ASX Online Portal Transformation
Background
The ASX Online portal is a tool that listed companies use to report their status. It is also used to keep up-to-date on what’s happening on the market and to access resources to help businesses remain compliant.
Our goal in this project was to improve the user experience by making it quicker to use and more intuitive to use, modernise the visual design and migrate the portal to Adobe Experience Manager.
Problem statement
I need to quickly and accurately report my company’s status to the ASX, but it is frustrating to find information to help me remain compliant.
My role
I was an agency-side UX designer based onsite at the ASX office.
Sketching and ideation at design studios
Creating wireframes and document design rationale
Collaborate with BAs, POs, PM, Visual Designer and Offshore Developers
Reviewing developer output
Research insights
The research was conducted before I joined. Example insights which anchored my thinking included:
Searching for information to support administrative tasks is a core activity for those reporting within the stock market. Despite this, the existing search function was very poor and users resorted to using Google!
Uploading reports is key to remaining compliant – it is something they just have to do. However, users had trouble keeping track of when and what things were due leading to warnings. The upload experience was also confusing.
Communication from ASX was not a tailored experience, leading to information overload or people not bothering to look at publications.
Current state example
This is what we were working with, it’s only up from here!
Design challenges and examples
Design studios were held at the beginning of each sprint to get our heads together and explore options. Following the design studios, I created wireframes taking into account foundation research and business requirements.
Stakeholders were consulted along the way to maintain visibility and a feedback loop.
Below are some samples for what I produced:
Search: Getting the taxonomy right and intuitively sectioning content types
Getting the taxonomy right is integral for producing discoverable/relevant search results. This taxonomy provides the foundation for direct keyword search as well as defining filters (useful if you don't know exactly what you were looking for).
I focused on the ‘events’ search result and provided recommendations to group and section content types.
Report upload: a transparent and focused experience
Form upload is a core activity and key to maintaining compliant. Improvements included:
Progressive disclosure to help users remain focused and make sure they accurately input data
Inline form validation for instant feedback on why something is not compliant
Branching workflow so they can do everything on one page, making the process faster
Editable form table so they can quickly fix mistakes instead of doing it in Excel and re-uploading
Obvious and clear due dates
Dashboard: a personalised experience
To address information overload and get people more engaged in communications, allow them to customise what they receive based on interest areas.
The dashboard contains tiles relevant to them based off settings in their profile. It is easy to access and provides just enough information, improving engagement with users.
The notifications tile helps them stay compliant. They no longer needed to sift through a long list of due dates and get reminders based off their scope of responsibility.
The dashboard also provides an opportunity for the ASX to advertise useful resources.
Reflections
Relevancy of experiences is key for engagement - just because you can publish content doesn’t mean you should! There are many ways to provide relevant experiences - dashboards, the way search functions are designed, dynamic content modules and of course 1:1 comms. This was a fun project to explore these mediums - thanks Sapient and ASX :)
